W/Cdr John Hassell Giles DSO DFC
Hi,
Above officer is reported to have flown operationally over Burma / india in 1941/42. Trying to establish with what units? I have his movements while with RAF Bomber Command, but his time in the Far east is rather vague. Any pointers most welcome. Steve

Re: W/Cdr John Hassell Giles DSO DFC
Steve,
In the online book Fighter Pilots in World War II by D.B. Halpenny, there's reference on p. 196 to Sqn Leader J.H. Giles being posted to No. 5 Squadron at Dum Dum on 2 March 1942. At that time the squadron flew Audax and Mohawk a/c. Regards, Leendert |

Re: W/Cdr John Hassell Giles DSO DFC
Adding what Rawlings stated in 'Fighter Squadrons of the RAF' he was the commanding officer between March and May 1942.
