Re: German Air gunner Kills

Neither book mentions the names of any of the crew who I can say were very lucky.

other sources for air gunner kills:
BCRS series
books by Chris Shores
some of the After the Battle book that deal with air combat.

If the Do 17 crew did not see it crash, they would not have been credited with it. In any case, in such combats the aircraft commander or pilot gets mentioned, not the gunner

Re: German Air gunner Kills

Good morning Gentlemen,

is it known if any of Heinz-Wolfgang Schnaufer's kills were scored by his gunner ?

Have a nice Tuesday,

Michael

Re: German Air gunner Kills

All records seem to indicated that Fritz Rumpelhardt participated in Schnaufer's victories

Re: German Air gunner Kills

Fritz Rumpelhardt was the Bordfunker - radio operator, but may have manned the guns in 1943.

Wilhelm Gänsler was Schnaufer's gunner, wasn't he ?

Re: German Air gunner Kills

Initially the BF manned the guns in the Bf 110 and yes, Gänsler was the BS but again he is mentioned as participating in the kills

Re: German Air gunner Kills

Hello dear Chris Goss,

Rumpelhardt and Gänsler are good candidates for the highest-scoring crewmen ever. I wonder if it is possibly to determine which gunner in airwar history was personally responsible for the highest score.

I wish you a pleasant second-half of the week,

Michael
