Re: Flugplatz Ossinowka
Surely May 1943 not 1942?

Re: Flugplatz Ossinowka
There may be several, but this is the one given in the German documents.
Ossinowka (RUSS) (a.k.a. Osinovka) (ZNr. 10-7669) (c. 54 21 N – 33 55 E). General: field airstrip (Feldflugplatz) in W Russia 130 km ESE of Smolensk and 9 km SSW of Spas-Demensk. History: no information found. Surface and Dimensions: natural surface measuring approx. 1000 x 750 meters (1095 x 820 yards). Infrastructure: no details found. Dispersal: no details found. Remarks: none. Operational Units: elements of I./JG 51 (Jul/Aug 42); IV./JG 51 (Jul/Aug 42); I./JG 26 (May 43). Station Commands: none identified but probably a small detachment of Fl.H.Kdtr. E 24/IV (Spas-Demensk). Station Units (on various dates – not complete): none identified. [Sources: chronologies; AFHRA, BA-MA; NARA incl. Re: Flugplatz Ossinowka
Thanks for the info. Off course it was first half of 1943. It helps to find out from where the claims of I./JG26 wher made. However some are not easy to determine. For instance:
31.05.43 Uffz. Erich Ahrens 3./JG 26 Il-2 16 362: at 500 m. 13.10 Film C. 2032/II Anerk: Nr. 132 31.05.43 Uffz. Heinz Münch 3./JG 26 Il-2 16 334: at 3-500 m. 13.12 Film C. 2032/II Anerk: Nr. 133 31.05.43 Fw. Josef Zirngibl 3./JG 26 P-2 26 854: at 4-5.000 m. 16.05 Film C. 2032/II Anerk: Nr. 134 Where they made from further north or furher south. Or a position is in error? B rgds |
