Sous-Lieutenant Pierre de L'Espinay GCI/4
Does anyone know when this pilot joined GCI/4? He had entered pilot training in 1938, aged c.19. His entry in records appears to indicate this one some time in 1940. He joins GCI/4 in Senegal, presumably after the Battle of France. He would therefore have flown the Curtiss Hawk.
In 1942 he is transferred to GCII/5 still flying the Hawk. After claiming two or three victories flying Warhawks and Thunderbolts with GC2/7 he remained in the air force until 1971. As an experience ground attack pilot he flew in Indo China in the period until 1954 although I do not know with which unit. regrds Keith |
