Re: He 111 from KGr. 100 - 14 August 1940

Hello,

Updated info from Peter Cornwell for beach landed 6N+CA:

"14 August 1940: Stab KGr.100 Heinkel He111H-1 (5252). Believed belly-landed on beach at Kerler, near Pointe de Mousterlin, south of Quimper, (France) on return from night attack on Dunlop Works at Birmingham early a.m. Crew all unhurt. Aircraft 6N+CA 40% damaged but repairable. (Ultra)
First attack on Britain by 21 aircraft of KGr.100 now operating from Vannes in France. Two of the aircraft dispatched were forced to return due to engine trouble (see also loss listed on 13 August). (Photos)"

I want to thank Jean-Louis Roba for providing a high-res scan of this a/c used in his new KGr100 book.

Regarding 6N+DH, this is Peter's current thinking on this one:

"15 August 1940: 1./KGr.100 Heinkel He111H-3. Lost bearings on return and wrecked in crash-landing on beach near Hourtin, north-west of Bordeaux, (France) following night attack on Nuffield (Morris) Works, Castle Bromwich. Crew all unhurt. Aircraft 6N+DH 100% write-off. (Photos)
Aircraft further damaged and buried by tidal action. Believed that later reported down 6km south-east of Les Sables-d'Olonne by coastal reconnaissance machine of (H)/41.(Ultra)"

Regarding the Dinard crash, his take now is:

"15 August 1940: 3./KGr.100 Heinkel He111H-3. Belly-landed on beach at St-Briac-sur-Mer, west of Dinard, (France) due to engine failure on return from night attack on Nuffield (Morris) Works, Castle Bromwich. Crew all unhurt. Aircraft 100% write-off."

Still no updated file yet for 6N+NH.

As usual, all comments, additional photos, etc are appreciated. Still looking for any imagery on the Dinard crash and a location or date for 6N+NH.
