Dog tag #

Friends,

I have gotten myself my first dogtag wich I think is LW.

My questions are; are the FP# and dog tag # the same?

Is this dog tag# for 3 Nachtflugstaffel (3 Nacht-AufklärerStaffel)? I can't find any Nachtflugstaffel or Nacht Aufkärer Staffel on Michael Holms site. Any information on this staffel is most welcome.

Peter

Re: Dog tag #

EM Number and FP Numbers are not the same. Please be very careful with acquiring dog tags, the reason being very obvious.

Re: Dog tag #

So, your FpN 58110 is for a Heer unit, not Luftwaffe.

I have also included information on how to decode the Mobilisationsnummern found on Erkennungsmarken.

Nachtaufklärungsstaffel 3

(Unit Code K7+)

also as: Nachtflugstaffel 3 (Jun 41 - Apr 42)
Nachtaufkl.St. 3 d.Gen.d.Lw.b.Ob.d.H. (Apr 42 - c. Nov 42)
3.(F)/Nacht (short form in use 1942-45)

FpN: L 31545.

Decoding Erkennungsmarken (dogtags):
http://www.dererstezug.com/Erkennungsmarke.htm
Höidal, Jean. Deutsche Erkennungsmarken des Zweiten Weltkrieges (Reihe Uniform und Ausrüstung deutscher Streitkräfte Band 8) (Gebundene Ausgabe).
Höidal, Jean. Deutsche Erkennungsmarken - Von den Anfängen bis heute: Mit den geheimen Codierungen (MOB-Listen) der Luftwaffe.

FpN: 58110:
(12.3.1943-7.9.1943) 2. Kompanie Pionier-Bataillon 33.

Re: Dog tag #

Thanks you so much all 3 of you.

First, John, I totally agree with you, dog tag should not be handled casually. I have always stayed away from them for those obious reasons. This one turned up and who it came from and to the extent I could check I think it is OK.

Rémi, It's very nice to have a name to a item in a collection, I am most greatful you were able to provide the name. Do you have any advice to a novice how to continue to get details on Uffz. Heinz Josaf?

Larry, All these reference will give me a lot of oportunities to research this further, thank you!!

Best Regards

Peter

Re: Dog tag #

For sure many people here would be interested to know a bit more about the E-M if anybody interested to start a report about them ...,
58110 is in that case the E-M not the Fpn, 58109 war worn by a member of a transport unit.
How do you know Peter that 58110 was the E-M of the 3.Nacht aufkl.st. ,?

1.F120 F Ullapool ross+cromarty ROSSHIRE A i, Loch broom Mausfall verorient, JU188D-3 230443 A6+FH 100
The detail for Josaf prisoner that day , I hv just the 58110 for him not his personal number, he was member of the 3.N.a.st. till mai 1944, at that date the unit was disbanded

Re: Dog tag #

Rémi,

The information about 58110 was given to me by the one I got the E-M from.

Rémi, can you also clarify the following, I am not too well in to all abbreviations yet. Also, any date on the los of the JU188?

1.F120 F Ullapool ross+cromarty ROSSHIRE A i, Loch broom Mausfall verorient, JU188D-3 230443 A6+FH 100

All the best!

Thank you

Re: Dog tag #

Exactly as Larry explained, after leaving the 3.N.a.st. he travelled with an important General nd later joined the 1.F120,
I repeat the code appearing on the tag has nothing to do with the Fpn, it's the Erkennungsmarke first member , in that case 58110 the unit, second number, here the 15 the personal number of the owner of the tag, gen. the first number was given to the proeminent persons Gr.kdr, Sta.ka.,
aDJ....after it seems that it is following the alphetical order , of the names of the pilot, norm. just flying pers. wear that type of EKM, but it seems on some case that also "Bodenpersonal" hv them, a few case if any
