Re: Unknown Bomb or Weapon Switch/Lever - Thoughts?
Might it allow the weapon to be fired remotely, or clear a jam? Just a guess. What does the product sheet above indicate?

The 'pistol grip' in the original photo does not appear to be there in the sheet you provided. Ed |

Re: Unknown Bomb or Weapon Switch/Lever - Thoughts?
I did some research on the MG 15 and could find no reference to electrical attachments. It appears it did not need electricity to fire and the design does not appear to be one that required an electrical safety device. The same can be said of the MG 17, but this MG was belt-fed.

Firing by remote? An interesting idea but that means some unknown attachment point other than the trigger itself that would cause it to fire, and how could it be sighted in? Locked directly forward like an MG used on a fighter? Ed |

Re: Unknown Bomb or Weapon Switch/Lever - Thoughts?
Ed,
I think, there is a misunderstanding here. This is not a (remote) firing device. It is itself an electric safety switch and seems to be attached to the cocking lever. If power is provided, "safety" is on and the cocking lever cannot be pulled. If no power is provided, "safety" is off and the cocking lever can be pulled. Or vice versa, as described in the data sheet for the ESi17. Now, why there is such a device on or for a machine gun at all, that is a totaly different question. Maybe indeed -as Snautzer suggested- as a device to prevent accidental/ unintentional or uncontrolled fireing.

Re: Unknown Bomb or Weapon Switch/Lever - Thoughts?
Thats because this is for mg17, so changes would be to expect.
