Fate of downed airmen, allied or German, 1939-45.

I have read some accounts of Allied airmen having come down in Germany,

being killed by the enraged civilian population. Is there any record of the

same fate being accorded to Luftwaffe aircrew surviving a crash or parachute

descent in the UK. I recall from a book on the period that a German airman

was saved from a hostile crowd somewhere near Plymouth but have not

seen any official reference to similar events elsewhere.
