Wreck of a FW 190 found in NORMANDY.
Hello,
My name is Arnaud LECERF and I live in NORMANDY in France. Last year , the wreck of a FW.190 was updated 60 years after its crash in June 1944. The sight was excavated and like the remainders of the pilot having been found, we try to identify it but we have neither his personal plate nor the werk nummer of its plane. The only found evidence is a marking RED 0 (or 10, 20...) and the following reference inside the rear of the fuselage meadows of the inspection door: LBP4 3116.5. ( the manufacturer of the aluminum ?) I search the list of FW.190’s Stab and Staffeln with big RED marking like the 2/JG54 in NORMANDY in june 1944. All the best, Arnaud |

Briefly checked Frappe's book and there is no Fw with such number. That does not mean it is definite as loss records are incomplete. Nonetheless is it possible the number was 8 or 9 for example? Where and when (approximatelly) the loss occured? What was the colour of the aircraft? |

Hi Franek
The stepping of 3 testimonys locates the loss in June 1944 at Ouilly of Houley to 10 km Northern of Lisieux (Normandy). No wrek Nummer found. I join the photograph of the marking of fuselage. All the best. Arnaud |

Hello Arnaud
As the airman was missing, he should appear on Frappe's list. Unfortunatelly, Lisieux was quite a popular place for dog fights and plenty of aircraft were lost there. I will try to check the list for possible candidates but still we need something allowing more positive identification. Were there any personal artefacts found? Does condition of the mortal remains allow any conclusions? Is the skull in condition good enough to attempt face reconstruction? Best wishes PS The photo did not went through. |

I will drop you an email so you can sedn the photos privately. Concerning JG2 colours, generally colours are not listed in their returns. Based on the list of losses following colours may be attributed to particular Staffeln: Blue - 4., 8., 12.; White - 5. or 7.; Yellow - 6. or 7., 11.; Black - 6., 10. I understand the colour order was White, Black, Yellow and Blue (Anybody can confirm?) so no red there. Interestingly I have found an aircraft WNr 172699 of Stab JG3 listed having Red 21 code. Pilot, Ofhr. Siegfried Clement was killed when the aircraft was downed on 24 July. There is also Fw 190A-8 WNr 680848 Red 20 missing on 11 August but the pilot, Uffz. Harry Wald reputedly later returned to his unit. Fw 190A-8 WNr 172669 Red 20 was found pillaged at Nogent-le-Roi when the Allied units advanced. Another unit that had red codes was 2./SKG10 but I have not found any fitting loss. |

Hello Arnaud,
Here is the link to my database from the book of JB Struck, it is updated regularly. There are lots of possible combinations with red. See! http://www.absa39-45.asso.fr/formula...ase_pertes.PHP Dan |

2./SKG 10 might be a candidate.
