Wellington X. production

Hi Folks,

I am wondering if any of you could tell me which Vickers Wellington X. bomber serial number batches (only Mk/B. X. !) were built in Chester, England and which ones were built in Blackpool in 1943-1944. Thank you.

Gabor

Re: Wellington X. production

A further complication is that some of the above were assembled at Chester's sub-unit at RAF Cranage in Cheshire. Similarly, some of the Blackpool production came from a sub-unit at Blackpool's old Stanley Park aerodrome.

For the record, the Chester plant was (and still is, now Airbus) on the edge of Hawarden airfield. Although near Chester, it is actually just over the border in Flintshire, North Wales. To add to the confusion, it is often referred to as Broughton (pronounced Brorton) after the adjacent village. All very puzzling to a non-local!
