Bf 109 G-2 (WNF) W.Nr. 13 485
According to sources SIG Norway and Nordic Aviation during WWII, the Bf 109 G-2 (WNF) W.Nr. 13 485 would have belonged to I/JG5 and was lost,on August 26, 1943, in Norway (unknown location). At the time of the crash (also because unknown reasons) it was piloted by Obfhr. Benno Schmieder who was injured.
According, instead, to another source and precisely "Croatian Aces of WWII (page 49)" and others, the same aircraft was used by Hauptleute Bogdan Vujicic of 15./JG 52 (Kroat) for desert to Russian lines. The aircraft landed on the airport of Russian Byelaya Glina in north east of Krasnodar May 14, 1943 and was seized by the Russians as prize of war. It's clear that one of this two items is wrong but I have tried all other sources available to me and the Internet for a possible solution of this question but with no luck. I'm wondering if there might be someone on the forum who can indicate which item is the correct one or even suggest other sources to look in. Thanks Freddy |

Re: Bf 109 G-2 (WNF) W.Nr. 13 485
Hello Freddy
Ofhr Benno Schmieder of 1./JG5 was probably flying Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-2 WNr.13458 and not WNr.13485 when he crashed SW of Stavanger, Rogaland that day. Greetings Knut |

Re: Bf 109 G-2 (WNF) W.Nr. 13 485
Thank you Knut.
This is almost certainly the right solution. I have found some other mismatches like this in those sources but always suceeded in resolving them. |

Sorry Kris, I couldn't find that name, or even a similar one, in that book. Are you sure he was of Croatian origin? Can you give me some other indication, such as Unity (prob 15./JG 52) or where he started to reach England?

Re: Bf 109 G-2 (WNF) W.Nr. 13 485
Vihar Ljubo (other Wichar Ljubo) was pilot Luftwaffe which from France go away to United Kingdom and was pilot of RAF.
We dont know in which year it was. He was German nationality Slovenian man so first he served for Luftwaffe. He survived II World War and come back from UK to Jugoslavia probably 1945/46. Than he started live in Ptuja as Instructor/Teacher for young pilots (in Ptuja - now Slovenia). So he was not Croatian - sorry. Best regards, Kris PS- this info. is from one of his pupils from Slovenia. My friend Roman V. is now 74 years old man - also pilot |
