Operation 'Molten' Oct 1944

Hi,

Can anyone please tell me if the gliders towed from England to Rome in Oct 1944 by aircraft of No.38 Group were ever used operationally? I am aware of Dennis Williams book, but wonder what was the reason for the request, and their eventual fate?

TIA

Steve
