JG 51 and 57, Helmut Lohoff

I think prices have gotten a bit out of hand on eBay:

I meant to write JG 77.

Usual disclaimer,
Ed

Thank you Ed for this album.

Re: JG 51 and 57, Helmut Lohoff

While in general I don't necessarily disagree with Ed on the crazy prices, these are dictated by whatever the buyers are willing to pay - which is why I give full thanks and credit to Ed, Franck, Peter Evans and others who take the time to search out these offerings and post the links on this site and the LEMB. A nice jpg or bmp copy of these photos does me very nicely many more times than not for my own research. Any WNr., Kennzeichen or SKZ I can add as new or to already existing information in my own database is greatly appeciated. The sad part, to me, is that many of these photos and documents will likely never be seen again, in a publication or other format.

Hello Jim,

Thank you very much for the kind words you've written. I take it for me but I'm sure both Ed and Peter will share the same feelings.
Beyond all comments about whatever picture, you can be sure that those words are rewarding the time we are spending on it.
Ed and Peter know it better than I since they "open the way" well before I start to do it.
So, let me thank them with you. .

Last, let me thank you too since you've always been here to show us that these data we got haven't been lost whatever the future of documents and pictures put in auction on eBay...

Thanks my friend.

Re: JG 51 and 57, Helmut Lohoff

Hello Gents,

What we got with this album?

1/ His Bf109F, Type, WNr. and Code number at the time he was taken POW, in February 42.
2/ WNr.1078 for the Bf109E on which he got his first victory. No code number but clearly 3. Staffel (CF Prien too)
3/ His Rote 12 in 2./JG 77 we already knew.
4/ Three Bf109D on which he apparently flew... ??+TP; GC+?? and NI+OP.
All three being in JFS 2.
Following Bert Hartmann site all three are noted in JFS 2 in February 1941: ???
- Same site gives us only one exit for ??+TP, that is DK+TP.
- Two clues for GC+??: GC+BB and GC+BC, both in JFS 2. But could be another one.
- NI+OP is amazingly noted as a Bf 109 E in Bert Hartmann site.

Questions:
- Comments?
- Is the crash picture linked with his own crash when flying in 2./JG 77? (See Prien)
- What's the link between Lohoff and "JG 2"?
- What else?

Regards, Franck.

Re: JG 51 and 57, Helmut Lohoff

It is stated that he got about 6 victories: Does anyone have any evidence supporting this? I have found none.

Thanks.

Re: JG 51 and 57, Helmut Lohoff

Hi guys

Lohoff was born on 31st October 1915. His claim for 21st February 1942 was never confirmed, probably nobody did the paperwork! He survived the war, and died on 8th September 1999.

Regards

Johannes
