AI MK IV Radar

Hi all

Does anybody know where I can find a picture of an AI MK IV Radar installation, preferrably in a Mosquito (NFII) cockpit?

All the pictures I have seen in books and on the net appear to be of the AI MK VIII, that had only 1 CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) whereas the older MKIV had 2, i.e. separate tubes for azimuth and elevation.

Thanks
Jos

It's an old book but "Confound and Destroy" by Martin Streetley has some, and there are good drawings in his book aimed at modellers, "The Aircraft of 100 Group."

Thanks Nick. Unfortunately I do not have these books, but they should still be available I guess. Nothing to be found on the internet, right?

Re: AI MK IV Radar

This is an experimental radar indicator unit showing two screens, but not sure of the aircraft type.

I'll scan AI IV pic from Confound & Destroy book tomorrow

Interesting picture Larry, never seen this one before but I am pretty sure this is a mosquito cockpit.

Thanks for your help so far

There is a picture of the same piece of equipment in C & D p. 176, the caption says that it is the display equipment for the AI Mk X, the small scope could be for Perfectos.

Since I have the books, I've never needed to look on the net.

Re: AI MK IV Radar

As promised the AI IV indicator

Sorry the quality is not great - the book isn't printed on glossy paper either.

Under the rubber cone that surrounds the indicator unit was two circular shape screens, not square

Re: AI MK IV Radar

Hi Larry

Thanks much for the picture. Yes this is the one I have been looking for. For comparison see this webpage showing a restored MK IV set, w/o the visor cone and showing the 2 round CRTs as you mentioned, and a nice intercept simulation: http://website.lineone.net/~norman.groom/AIMK4.htm

Best regards
Jos
