Horst Hanning and his claims with JG2
Hello all
Credited since 75 + years with 8 "Abschusse" with JG2 Problem:to my knowledge nobody has yet been able to confirm his 8° "abschuss". Source T.Wood 16/02/43=B-17...founded;shared with Hptm.Bolz,Lt.Edelmann,Uffz.Helwig and Fw.Schroder (NAG 13),Lt.Klink (NAG 13):303°BG(42-2967) 28/03/43=Spit...founded (610°Sqd.X 4,603°Sqd.X 1) 04/04/43=Spit...(504°Sqd.??) 13/04/43=Spit X 2...founded (485°Sqd.X 1,331°Sqd.X 2) 15/04/43=Typhoon...founded (247°Sqd.) 16/04/43=Spit...Unknown...and so unfounded?? And the "famous" 8° "Abschuss"....a Myth? Thank you if you can correct me. Michel |

Re: Horst Hanning and his claims with JG2
Hello Michel,
From Erik Mombeeck's book "Dans le ciel de France, Histoire de la JG 2 vol.4 : 1943", page 95, it is noted that Lt. Horst Hanning claimed a Spitfire on 15th May 1943 at 17h06. Some minutes later he was shot down and killed. Pierre Babin |

Re: Horst Hanning and his claims with JG2
Hi Nick
Some complement:15/05/43 The potential victim of Hannig is not 1 spit of the 421°,19°,403° Sqd but rather 1 of the 2 Spits of 315°Sqd lost in the region of Caen during circus 297. German claims: Rudorffer=Typhoon (S.Senarpont): in reality Spit 19°Sqd BL544 Rudorffer=Spit (Conteville):403°Sqd BS246 Huppertz=Spit (W.Bonnieres):421°Sqd AB973 Goltzsch=Spit (Eu/Baromesnil):403°Sqd BR986 Paulus=Spit (W.Troarn/Caen):315°Sqd LZ990 or BS554 Hannig=Spit (Region Caen):315°Sqd LZ990 or BS554 Buhlingen=Mustang (1157/05 Ost) 07.16 : unknown Remark:7 claims...6 founded (one to confirm)... for JG2,not bad!
