Ju 88 loss, 9./NJG 4, 30 November 1944
During the night of 30 November-1 December 1944 the four crew of the Ju 88 G-1 WNr 714754 3C+HT of 9./NJG 4 had to bail out from their aircraft due to engine problems during an operational sortie. Two were wounded but all survived.
Crew (all survived): Ofhr Franz Kriesten Gefr Helmut Buczko WIFA Gefr Günther Podzuweit Gefr Georg Pawliczek WIFA Michael Balss book on NJG losses say the aircraft crashed at Wahlfeld an der Leine, but I could not find this place. The only place calle Whalfeld I found is away from the Leine River. Another place had been proposed: Am Wahrberg in 31061 Alfeld, close to the Leine River. Can someone confirm the latter ? Thanks in advance |

Re: Ju 88 loss, 9./NJG 4, 30 November 1944
Thanks Nick, it is the same place that I proposed, "Am Wahrberg" is part of
your Alfeld. Seems nice but I would like a confirmation in documents or local history. |

Re: Ju 88 loss, 9./NJG 4, 30 November 1944
A very old thread, but I think the meaning of "Wahlfeld" could be w. Alfeld a. d. Leine (west of Alfeld).

Re: Ju 88 loss, 9./NJG 4, 30 November 1944
Hallo Laurent!
You can find the answer to your question about "Wahlfeld" simply by inserting "Wahlfeld map" into the Google search template. This query will yield several hyperlinks, of which the first or second will provide location information and a nice map to boot. I have found that the above technique will yield desired results some 98 or 99 percent of the time, including some very small hamlets and crossroads. If one is included—and it will be about 75-85 percent of the time—the Michelin return will produce the best location info, including the best map. Lastly, my copy of the list of night fighter losses transcribed from the NVLM of III./NJG 4 by Hans Ring and Winfried Bock does record the location for your loss of interest as "Wahlfeld." Hope this helps you out. RA |
