Ju 88 T-1 or S-2 at Bergamo - Werknummer 43026? - Info available?
Dear all,
Currently at Ebay, there is a Picture of a Ju 88 S-2 or T-1, most probably from F/123, taken at BERGAMO, in 1944, in ITALY. http://www.ebay.de/itm/Orig-Foto-zer...YAAOSwuxFYyqCW We can distinguish the Werknummer 43026? above, on the rudder of one of the pictures Do we know the fate of this machine, by the werknummer? I mean, several of you do have the list of losses, etc....is it possible to track down the date this machine was burnt by the Germans? Thanks Adriano |

While I have some Ju 88 T-1 and D-1 losses over Italy in the 430000 series, I don't have any starting 4302…

Dear Nick,
Thank you very much for the quick answer. Am I blind or with poor eyesight or the werknummer is indeed 43026_ ???? Sadly the lateral view and front view of this machine does not give glimpses to the Squadron codes...Both mervellous pictures. Sadly my bid was outnumbered by quite a dozen Euros, so I gave up. I'm pretty sure it is, but the "6" is right at the edge of the damaged to the fin so it might just possibly be an "8".

Agree, 43028x or 43026x might be the number, if fin has correct airframe attached (fin might have moved between planes, such happened and can confuse ...). But I find no match at Bergamo, might be other location.
But it had FuG 217 Rostock radar antennas on wing suggesting overwater work, and this is in lieu with 430 (small) 2xx (larger), suggesting repair/rework (refit) with ATG/Siebel but this is not often seen on D-1s. Version appears "normal standard" Ju 88 D-1 to me (has Jumo 211 J / VS 11 props) and had "larger Beetle Eye rear armament bulges" (lying there on ground) but the Ju 88 T-1 had BMW 801 radial engines and often singe gun canopy (a la A-1) with MG 131 or larger (and certainly not "one off" Big Belly Ju 88 S-2 with turbocharged BMW 802 TJ engines!) There is Ju 88 T-1 (unburned) from same sellar, but not same plane! Also the "Ju 188" is not same (BURNED) plane, obviously ITS AN Ju 88 T-1 ;-) Last edited by edNorth; 28th March 2017 at 20:14. Yes, it would be nice to identify this burned-out Ju 88! A clue to the location may be found in the surrounding agriculture. I see fields of corn (maize to
Europeans) surrounding the wreckage. Also, the runway and dispersal appear to be careful and solid concrete construction. RA |

I bet people in Iceland also use Corn Flakes and pop corn Ed..., not mentioning the ever more popular Tex Mex food
However during the 1930s I think corn was mostly farmed and used as food for cattle and so on here in Europe. But, hey, aren't we straying a bit from the subject? Cheers Stig |
