Jan20,1945 . 454 BG Loss, Linz
B24 44-49343 of 739BS 454BG hit by flak ,loosing fuel 30 min south of Linz,
last seen at 46-54N, 13-55E 21000ft flying south less than 300gals remaining near Eben Reichenau Austria. All crew except radio operator MIA. Radio operator buried Florence American Cemetery. Does anyone have any other information. This is all MACR has to say. Is it possible that it could have made to coast and ditched in sea? Unusual to have Radio op survive and rest not. also he is buried at Florence. I suspect he was reinterred there but Where was crash site? The family of Pilot Capt Robert Darcy (Canadian)has been trying to get more information with little sucess. Records say very little His cousin in 44BG KIA 28jan 45 in B24, aircraft also hit in bomb bay and exploded near Dortmund. Any help would be appreciated on Darcy. Thanks Robert Reid |
