Horst Carganico

Hi guys

On War Relics Forum website, I noticed the following on a piece about Horst Carganico

"photos of the rudder when he scored his 50th at the end of July 1942, three additional RAF roundels are recorded for the period October 1941. There were claims against Hurricanes of 151 Wing or there Russian counterparts when they were handed over."

I haven't personally seen any photos as such, but can this be correct? Many of his victories are unrecorded - for example, he claimed six in the first 10 days of July 1941 - no dates, no details.

I'm wondering if he did make three claims against British aircraft in 1941, that they may have been claimed on 31 July during the FAA raid on Petsamo and Kirkenes?

Any ideas?

Cheers
Brian

Re: Horst Carganico

Hi Brian,

They weren't from 151 Wing and not sure if they were from the FAA raid on Kirkenes/Petsamo. I think they were Hudson's etc off the coast of Norway.

I have a list, probably covering 35 of the 50 claims and there are photos of him returning in Bf109F-4Z 10132 after his fiftieth victory.

regards

Mark

Re: Horst Carganico

Hi Brian,
i remember having received one or two Pictures showing Carganico in Petsamo or Kirkenes some years ago. If interested, I'll have a look in my picture archive.

Re: Horst Carganico

Hello Brian
it seems that FAA didn't suffer losses during its attacks on Lofoten/Vestfjorden area in Sept and Oct 41. Source Flyalarm, I didn't check from Roskill's RN history or Sturtivant's British Naval Aviation.
