JU88D-1 or Me410A-1 lost 28.09.43
This is intriguing. Cne Gabriel Gauthier claims a Ju88 damaged on this date but there may be a corresponding loss.
The Kracker Luftwaffe Archive states Ofw Räppold, Kurt "MIA 23 September, 1943; shot down at Tyrrhenisches Meer, east of Corsica, possibly by a fighter piloted by Capt Gauthier of GC II/7. R/O Ofw Reinhard Beier also MIA. Their exact status not given; I established the MIA status. Wiki Luft data & Ju 88 Loss List." They were the crew of Ju 88D-1 Werk # 430899 "5M + Y" (lost 9/23/43) Other sources state this was an Me410A-1 of 2.(F)/122 was lost east of Corsica on a mission, with the crewmen both posted missing. As we know the Ju88D-1 normally had a crew of 4 so the latter aircraft could be a correct identification resembling as it did the Ju88. Wekusta 26 was using the Ju88D-1.
