Re: F4F Wildcat Serial Numbers - Loss Info needed
Both these aircraft were assigned to the Naval Air Operational Training Command.
The FM-1 was retired in February 1945, having last served at Miami. 12256 was stricken in August 1943 following a serious accident at Melbourne on 3 June. The Marine pilot, 2Lt. D. Riley, lost control on landing, braked hard and nosed over, crushing the tail surfaces.
