Oblt.Wilehlm Engel 3/NJG6

On the night 25/26 February 1944,Wilhelm Engel is credited with a Lancaster 21h26(61°Sqd:Lagarde NE Luneville France) source Bomber losses Kracker.

1)No mention about that in the book Night Fighter combat claims (Foreman,Matthews and Parry)

2)How many bombers shot down IN THE REGION OF AUGSBURG during that raid against Augsburg.

Someone knows more

Michel: That book is dated and best bet now are Theo Boiten's books. Engel did make a claim at 2129 hrs NE Luneville. There were 27 claims that night of which just 4 mention Augsburg

Re: Oblt.Wilehlm Engel 3/NJG6

Ok Chris

It seems difficult to get his books.
I have not been able to identify witch Squadrons correspond to the claims in the vicinity of Augsburg.

Hptm Gerhard Raht 22.43 S Augsburg
Maj Heinrich Wohlers 22.45 30 km Augsburg
Fw Rauer 01.33 40km Augsburg
Kurt Gabler 21.57 Augsburg
Fw Wilhelm Stillger 23.04 Augsburg

The majority of the losses that night were in France and Belgium.
Maybe someone has the answer?
Michel

Re: Oblt.Wilehlm Engel 3/NJG6

Hello Michel,

I've made a complete analysis of the complex 25-26.2.44 Augsburg raids & Gardening effort for the new series with Wing Leader Publishing, including all the NJ & Flak Abschüsse and matchings to individual Bomber Command losses.

Wing Leader is still working on the book proofs, hope you'll be able to read the full story shortly! Anyone with questions about the new series, please contact Wing Leader directly.

Cheers, Theo
