Hermann Jochems Ju87D-5 codes question
Hermann Jochems spent over 2 years of the war flying recon missions for Stab./StG2/SG2. On 20 August 1944 his ju87D-5 forced down behind the Russian lines and he was taken prisoner.
Aircraft on-hand records show the only D-5 losses for SG2 in August were 24 from III. Gruppe and 1 from 10. Staffel. Can someone please tell me the codes, if known, for the D-5 he flew that day? Thank you Peter |

Re: Hermann Jochems Ju87D-5 codes question
Thank you very much, Matti.
This is a surprise. I was wondering how one could fly long-range recon in a Ju87, but that's the only a/c I (thought I) knew he flew. There's not much information about Recon units readily available. Was part of 4.(F)/11 attached to SG2, or is the information that Jochems was with SG2 wrong? Thanks again! Peter |

Re: Hermann Jochems Ju87D-5 codes question
Hermann Jochems was since autumn 1938 a pilot in the Stabsstaffel/StG 2. That was a reconnassance unit equipped with the Do 17 and later the Bf 110. The unit was disbanded in June 1943 and in April 1944 Jochems became the pilot of Hptm. Bock, who was the Staffelkapitän of 4.(F)/11. Albert Bock had also been a long-standing member of Stabsstaffel/StG 2.

Thank you very much Gerhard for the invaluable information, and the lesson that what one reads on the internet, even from otherwise reliable sources, must always be taken very carefully as it could well be some way from the truth!

Thanks for the info, I found this plane on the site of the fall a few years ago. Does anyone have information about losses of distant reconnaissance crews Ju-88 (Ju-188) over Belarus? 21.08.44 25.08.44 Dmitry Kienko Minsk |
