F/L Woodruff - 248 Sqn 1939

Roger Morewood and Sam Mchardy mention F/L Woodruff giving them dual training in an Oxford. Sadly no Christen Name - would this be the same Woodruff i.e. Phillip Woodruff that commanded 404 Squadron in April 1941 ?

Regards

Andy Bird

Re: F/L Woodruff - 248 Sqn 1939

Hello Andy,
Have looked at AFList for August, September & December 1939.
Found these in the names index
August
Woodruff G.C.B - P/O.
Woodruff J - P/O
Woodruff C.J.
Woodruff H.W.
Woodruff P.H - P/O 39806
September
Woodruff C.J.
Woodruff H.W.
Woodruff P.H. P/O 39806.
December
Woodruff C.J.
Woodruff H.W.
Woodruff P.H. F/O 39806.
1940
May
Woodruff C.J
Woodruff H.W.
Woodruff P.H..
P.H would most certainly be Patrick Henry Woodruff who as Wing Commander DSO; DFC lost his life on 27-02-1945.
Hope this is of some use.
Alex

Re: F/L Woodruff - 248 Sqn 1939

Hugh Halliday's entry on 39806 Patrick Henry Woodruff has him posted to No. 248 Sqn in January of 1940.

Regards,

Dave
