Loening OL-9 A8746 USMC Crash "24" August 1931
I found reference to this aircraft that crashed at Corinto, Nicaragua August "24th" 1931 today
I believe the crew were Sergt Lee W Clark (Pilot) Killed Private Richard M Campbell (crew) Injured I would like confirmation Though https://billiongraves.com/grave/person/25661373 Has the date of death as 23rd August 1931 as has the Muster Unit Roll of Clarkes Unit Lee W Clark Born: Oct 1903 (prob Texas) Died: 23 Aug 1931 Cemetery Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery Cabrillo Memorial Drive San Diego, San Diego, California United States Many Thanks Paul |

Here are a couple of newspaper clippings from Aug 24 and Aug 25 in a couple of Pennsylvania newspapers. Note the accident apparently happened August 23.

Paul,
This aircraft was in fact Curtiss O2C-1, A8756, of the Aircraft Squadrons, 2nd Brigade, Managua. An attempted dive recovery over the field at Corinto on August 23rd was left too late and the aircraft mushed into the ground. The landing gear and engine were torn off. Both S.Sgt. Clark and Pte. Campbell suffered fatal injuries.

George thanks for this And correction to serial I found reference to Clarke’s death while still trying to fully ID Staff Sergeant Robert A Williams USMC and Navsl Aviation Pilot who was stationed with Clarke and returned to San Diego on the same shop as his repatriated body
