Crashed He 162 photo help

Hello Gents,

A few years ago there was a picture put on this site of a personal GI WWII period photograph showing a gear down crashed He-162. I was hoping this picture would reappear in some newer publication in the years following the discovery, however my search has come up empty.

The photo is reversed because the swastika is shown in revere on the photograph. The W/Nr appears in the 31XXXX range and the forward fuselage camoflage demarcation shows the particular aircraft to be a Junkers built machine.

The note on the picture mentions the following: Early 1945, WWII German Jet plane we shot down! Fortunately it was near the end of the war and they only bombed us a few times. Please return to Chuck Coe.

Does anyone have a good copy of this photo or know more about the picture? The exact date or perhaps a good idea what the W/Nr would be? This picture could seem to capture more of a t/o /landing accident with the gear down. (?) Only one or two were ever shot down and the W/Nr don’t support this particular W/Nr.

Hoping someone out there might have more information. Thanks for any help with my question in advance.

Troy

Yes! Thank you Snautzer. The W/Nr is much clearer in your picture. I certainly wish I could find out more information on this particular bird. Thanks again for any help out ther Gents.

Re: Crashed He 162 photo help

EdNorth. Thank you and Snautzer.

Looks like a preproduction aircraft without tactical squadron markings. (?). W/Nr. 310001 looks much clearer in Snautzer’s photograph. Wondering with the war situation and the crash, the aircraft was just left there as is? The flaps look retracted.

Also of interest is the BMW 003 exhaust outlet nozzle looks to be extended. Now wondering if this is an A-1 with the MK 108-30mm installed? W/Nr. 310003 on the train car heading to France at wars end is so close the W/Nr. (310003) and it shows the larger MK 108’s shell ejection chutes on the lower fuselage to great purpose secured on the train car.

So many questions surrounding this photograph. Thanks Gents.

I like the newer photograph with the main wheel stencil so clearly legible on Snautzer‘s clear photograph with the port main gear hyper extended.

Awesome help gents. Many thanks.

Troy

Re: Crashed He 162 photo help

This one is for sure not 310001, as the first Bernburg production plane had a different camouflage style as all others followed.

Most probably this one is 310011.

Re: Crashed He 162 photo help

Hello everyone,
I immediately saw it as WNr. 310011, and after Pascal posted the link in Post #7 I am more convinced than ever.
Respectfully,

Re: Crashed He 162 photo help

Hey Gents.
Im really impressed and want to thank all that have contributed to my quest. A certain amount of gratitude to all that have come forward with help on for my endeavor.

One last request. I’m rather new posting but all always a reader. A really great friend of mine has reversed the picture to represent the actual image as it was first viewed. Can I personally email it to one of you gents to represent the aircraft as it actually was when it was photographed? Can you private message me somehow so I can share this with all of us? Thank you all in advance. Most impressed with my initial question.

Thank you.

Troy
