Fw 190 of II/JG 1 on 20th Nov. 1942 mission

Hello to all!
Please, could any JG 1 expert give me more details about the mission of 20th November 1942? How many aircrafts took off, who was the leader, what about the claims?
Some Fw 190 of II/JG 1 were scrambled this day to cope with one of the first Strike missions carried out by 254 Squadron Beaufighters. I am particularly interested to know the names of the crews that were scrambled, if were any losses amongst the Fw 190?
Glad to all

Hi Adriano,

they suffered no losses claiming one Beuafort! (5/JG1 Uffz.Otto Schmid at 16.08 75 km W of Zandvoort - it was Beaufighter T4780 from the 236 RAF squadron).

Regards

Robert

Hi Robert!
Thanks a lot for the information. Yes, it seems that the OC of 236 Squadron was lost + another 236 plane and a 254 Beaufighter which crash landed.
Do you know how many Fw 190 were scrambled? Only .5 Staffel? Who was the leader?
Thanks a lot!
Adriano

Hello Adriano - Robert,

The Staffelkapitän at that moment was Oblt. Max Buch(h)olz. End '42 he was replaced by Hptm. Dietrich Wickop. Depending on the source (Mombeek or Prien/Rodeike) his name was written with 1 or 2 'H'.
Best wishes,

Dirk

Re: Fw 190 of II/JG 1 on 20th Nov. 1942 mission

Hello all,

From the KTB II./JG 1:

translated roughly

No operations were flown from Woensdrecht. Schiphol: Uffz Schmid (5./JG 1) encountered with the Seeaufklärungsrotte 4 Bristol Beaufort. Was able to shot down one Beaufort, the other three escaped into the clouds.

Seems to me only two fighters, of which one was Uffz Schmid. Other name unknown. The Rotte took off from Schiphol. Other sources also state Uffz Schmidt.

Best wishes,
Rob
