Spitfire Crash France 1940
Has anyone any record of any Spitfire Is force-landing undercarriage down on a French beach (on the tide line) in 1940 after which it was set on fire?

Re: Spitfire Crash France 1940
It would appear to be either Davies of 222 Sqn or Gribble of 54 Sqn. Former definitely landed with wheels down but did Gribble on 25 May 40?

Re: Spitfire Crash France 1940
Doesn't Larry Hickey have a collection of pictures of burnt out Spitfire (and Hurricanes) on the beach at Dunkirk?
One way to determine the time period as being Dunkirk time frame is to (where they exist) observe the tall tail flash on the tail. |

Re: Spitfire Crash France 1940
I have photos of both spitfires. Both are undercarriage down but one is burnt out & the nose tipped forward, the other is the same but nose tipped back but whic one is Gribble & which one is Davies. To make matters worse I have now turned up another photo of a spitfire on its belly props unbent but rear fuselage is missing!
