Post Attack over Bonn-Hangelar airport on 11 May'40

All,

Massive bombing mission were performed by 9 french bombers over Bonn-Hangelar airfield on 11 May'40. Damages were reported minors on the airfield altough the exact outcome remained unknown for the french.

I am currently researching information relating to this specific and untreated event. If any of you at all have any information that you think I may be interested in, please let me know.

Do you know which german unit(s) were located on this airfield at this time?

Does anyone know the damages done on the airfield infrastructures, if any?

Do you know on which german archives or local files I could dig to find out an answer?

Cheers
Jerome

Some years ago, a civil aviation pilot who lived nearby was working on a history of Bonn-Hangelar and the first volume (from origins to 1939, I think) came out several years ago and was reviewed (again, IIRC) in Jet&Prop.

The author was Flugkapitän Hartmut Küper, so it might be worth trying a web search under that name.

Hi Nick,

Thank you for the tips. I crawled the web and found this book new or used on Amazon site. However, this book is in german and I would like to be sure that the a.m. subject is described. I am interested in additionnal info on this book.

Does someone who have this book can provide such info?

Cheers

Jerome

This raid was carried out by 9 Amiot 143s of Groupement n° 10 (GB I/38 and II/38). According to the crews' reports, results were nil.

Hmm... don't know where this smiley comes from but it hides a "8" (to read GB II/38).

When you said "According to the crews' reports", I do understand this is the mission report set in the groupement n°10 ORB / Compte rendu d'activité available at the SHD/A (FAF archives near Paris) in the G series or you had just collected a testimony from the crew?

Thanking you

Jerome

Hello CJ, it is noted. I will dig into the JMO at the next opportunity...

To come back to the initial subject, I am interesting to get the Luftwaffe unit(s) located at this airfield.
Does somebody has info on these german units ?

Thanks for help,

Jerome
