RAF Claims 19 Oct 40

In the afternoon of 19 Oct 40, a Do 17 of 8./KG 2 was damaged in combat over the Channel. The only possibility is Flt Lt Dennis David of 213 Sqn who claimed the destruction of a Ju 88 off Manston (way off 213's operating area). Can anyone help? The 213 ORB is dreadful and the Combat Report appears to be missing

Re: RAF Claims 19 Oct 40

I'm sure you've already got this but just in case...

Flipping through Foreman's RAF Fighter Command Victory Claims Part One he lists F/L David's claim at 1110 hours.

Next listing (last for the day) is for a Ju 88 damaged by Sgt. H. Sharpley of 234 Squadron at 1340 hours SW Lands End.

Re: RAF Claims 19 Oct 40

Hi,

at 12.00 hrs (German time) this bomber bombed Margate. Just afterwards it was attacked by 3 enemy fighters and damaged. I have F/L David claiming Ju 88 6 km N of Margate.

Regards

Robert

Thanks all. Still a bit of a puzzle as what was David doing off Manston/Margate. No combat report & nothing in the F540

Chris
If you look under Daniel 213 on NA site you will find F/Ltn David's CR for 19/10/40
according to his report he was directed after a practice flight with B Flight to take Blue section to investigate a plot over Manston

regards David

David: Indeed it is and thanks for that. However, I note he never saw it crash into the sea.....

Managed to translate the handwriting on the combat report. It was Blue Section 213 Sqn (David, Wlasnowolski and Barrow). The narrative make no mention of the type or that it crashed but according to the German pilot, they crash-landed back at Cambrai where undercarriage collapsed. 169 bullet holes and aircraft written off
