ANY

I would like a photo from the period, but a shot from a museum would also be nice

Il-2 pics

Carsten,
if you go to aircraftresourcecenter.com they have pictures of the IL-2
(a two-seater) in the Kbely museum in Prague.
I do not know if they will let you use them or not, but you can always ask.

if not I can send some to you.
the only real question is do you need permission from the photographer or publisher? (big thing here in the US)

I have many images of Yak-9s (my personal favorite) in my harddrive.
I can even colorize them for you!

P.F.

Hi Kurlannaiskos
Copyright rules are as strict here in Europe as it is in the US. The problem with WW II photos is that it is quite often nearly impossible to find the person who has the copyright. That you have a print of the photo does not mean that you have the copy right. A lot of photos were copied during the war and sold in shops. These pictures pop up almost everywhere and a lot of people claim the right to them because they think that they have the original photo.

I have been getting a couple of good shots of the Russian planes.

Thanks for your reply

Carsten

If you like I can ask on a Russian forum if anyone can provide you with decent scans of photos that you need.
Concerning copyright, most if not all aviation related publications violate copyrights. I must note here that in one of my articles I have used a photo scanned from a booklet and it did not violate any copyrights as the photo was not copyrighted and I had agreements from both publisher and author. In the same article I have used photos obtained from a man who took them personally, so no copyright issue, and photos taken by another airmen, whom I was unable to identify - this could violate copyrights.
