Re: copyright on AP's
As I know all of the official documents of that type are Crown copyright. I have for example manual of Spitfire and it is Crown copyright. So owner of this material on e-bay are not copyright owner at all.... as I know.

Re: copyright on AP's
Well, it depends on the country. Copyright laws are different from one to another and only the laws of the country of origin are valid.
BTW, what is an "AP"? |

Re: copyright on AP's
In this case it seems to be they have copyrighted the format rather than the content - "copyright on time" implies the effort of collecting and transfering on to CD.
So if you can get the information from other sources then it's still in the public domain (or somebody elses copyright if they've done the same). Seems like a cheap trick to me - it's like those companies that sell printed copies of US Army weapons guides - you're paying for their effort of printing and binding - you can just as easily find the info on official sites for free. |

Re: copyright on AP's
Hi
Thanks for the replies. It still seems strange to me, the phrase 'copyright on time' this would seem to imply if I took the time and trouble to scan a book and put it on Cd/DVD that I would have copyright on it. Would this then also apply for photographs, If someone scanned a photo onto cd/dvd could they then claim to have copyright.. Surely this would upset many of todays authors. 'A copyright confused me as usual' cheers Jerry |

Re: copyright on AP's
Afraid not - in this case the information is in the public domain. By scanning a book - unless copyright has lapsed - is retained by the author or their representatives or heirs. Photographs are tricky - commercial photos are copyrighted but as has been discussed in an earlier thread, things like historical photo copyrights are, err, debatable :-)
