Seeking info/photos on 2 x Bf109s Crashed on French Territory on 10.1.40
Hello,
This pretty well wraps up LW losses on French territory during the 1940 period of the Phoney War. Seeking photos and/or further details on these losses: 1) "10 January 1940: 1./JG51 Messerschmitt Bf109E-3. Abandoned due to engine fire and crashed near Soultz-sous-Forêts, east of Kutzenhausen, France, at 1.30 p.m. (Ff) Oberfw Wilhelm von Balka baled out, hit the tailplane, and captured badly injured. Aircraft 100% write-off." 2) "10 January 1940: Stab I./JG54 Messerschmitt Bf109E-3. Shot down by return fire during low-level pursuit of Potez 63 of GR II/55 and crashed and burned out near Hirtzfelden, France, 20 km south-east of Colmar, 11.30 a.m. FF Lt Ernst Schütz(Gruppenadjutant) killed. Aircraft 100% write-off." I hope that someone can help. |
