Please help id Fuselage Marking

Hi there,
I've been told this was wreckage from a german fighter in Lappland but I have doubts as its the insignia looks suspiciously like the roundrel for the Israeli Air Force. Any Luftwaffe or Finnish units perhaps that have this as their unit or mascot markings?

Cheers.

Jeff

That is definitely not an Israeli marking... Too 'stretched' for the IAF insignia.

Re: Please help id Fuselage Marking

Actually, could it be from an Israeli Avia S-199? These machines had their markings rather roughly applied by hand after their arrival, and in some cases the roundels and stars ended up having a somewhat squashed or uneven shape as a result. The color of the background would also seem consistent with this possibly being a piece of S-199 skinning. If the fragment indeed belongs to a S-199, the small size of the insignia may indicate it belongs to one of the very first machines from the first batch of S-199s delivered in May 1948 - nationality markings were soon enlarged, probably starting with D-108; surviving earlier machines also received the bigger roundels.

As Harrison987 says...tread carefully. That panel looks correct (without seeing a tape measure) to the side fuselage panels of a 109 (avai s199). But the paint just doesnt seem right somehow.
