Flugzeugleitstelle OBS 05/08/1942

Hello to all
A Ju-88 A-4 was lost the 05/08/1942 at a place named Feiersinger-Alpe (unknown place) but quoted in the TM, WNr-140094 Flugzeugleitstelle OBS Crew was Uffz Hinsche Richard (KIA)--- Uffz Schmedike Paul (WND)---Obgefr Ellersick Bruno (WNd)---Oblt Gebauer Heinz (KIA)Stab./LG 1 . The names or the fate of the crew seems to be wrong as the place of the crash , did someone had more accurate information on this crash ,I believe the crash place is Freissinières in France , but no proofs .
Regards
Phil

Great
I have not made the relation between the two entries on the GQM , shame on me ! I assume that Hinze and Hinsche is the same man as for Edersick and Ellersick
Many many thanks Leo

Phil

Leo

What was OBS or O.B.S.?
Some kind of control center I presume, but for what?
Never come across that short form before

Cheers

Re: Flugzeugleitstelle OBS 05/08/1942

Hello Stig,

in the GQM returns the units "O.B.S. Reserve" and "Flugzeugleitstelle OBS" are assigned to the "Oberbefehlshaber Süd" (= OBS).

Thanks Leo

That explains the shortform, but what was it actually doing?

Re: Flugzeugleitstelle OBS 05/08/1942

I'm not entirely certain in saying this, but I think this was the, or part of the, organization ferrying aircraft from depots/factories to frontline units in the earlier years. Later known as Flzg.Überführ.G.

Re: Flugzeugleitstelle OBS 05/08/1942

Thanks Jim

That was very interesting data.
Since Jim is not 100% certain, can anyone else confirm this?
In the meantime Jim, I will make a note of what you say.

Thanks again
Cheers
Stig

Re: Flugzeugleitstelle OBS 05/08/1942

überf. nd leit... mean the same, situation is particular in the south, route is long to Afrika they are crossing Italy, not an occupied country.., Reserve is some stock unit probably based in Foggia nd Riem, ideal for carpet bombing, nd some units, like LG1 , hv there own stock-reserve, one question puzzling me, is that reading Ultra we observe that the Ferrying , part. in 1943 is made by short steps, 3/400 km, Riem, Osoppo, Pisa,...., not direct flights
