ETO F-4/F-5 Squadron code XX
I'm struggling to identify a possible Lockheed F-5 unit that might have carried the squadron markings XX on the aircraft booms.
Some one posted an image of a crashed P-38 or more likely an F-5 which has the codes C and XX on the tail boom. The C is forward of the XX, with the C positioned on the radiator bulges. I can't seem to find a list of ETO squadron codes, the fuselage letter/number codes.

Re: ETO F-4/F-5 Squadron code XX
The 34th used 2 codes in 3 different Groups.
"S9" with 10PRG March 1944. "XX" with Provisional RG (XII TAC) Oct. 1944. "XX" with 69TRG March 1945. "S9" on radiator housings, "XX" on rear booms. Colours depended on background. Regards Nick |

Thanks for that Nick.
I recall armyairforces forum website used to list these codes, have they survived elsewhere online?

Re: ETO F-4/F-5 Squadron code XX
Hi Dennis. These are the Ninth codes, more complicated than the Eighth especially the Recon Sqns. where the TRS and PRS were re-assigned; there is one missing here, the 162TRS used "IX" in the Prov.RG and then 10PRG.
2- PR squadrons changed codes when tranferred; the 33rd from SW ( 10PRG then 67TRG) to 2W in the 363TRG / Prov. RG / 69TRG. Plus 34PRS as noted above ( S9 to XX). The Eighth designators were more consistant, I only know of one code changing , 370/359FG from CR to CS to avoid confusion with 367/358FG's CP.
