Crash Landed Spitfire picture

Here's a slightly poor photo of a crash landed Spitfire V or IX. Late war markings, no engine, pilot appears to have survived (cockpit looks intact). Unfortunately, there a portly German soldier is blocking a good view of the letters.

Any ideas as to the identity?

Re: Crash Landed Spitfire picture

It is a poor scan in the first place and whomever placed the squiggle line over the fuselage does not help matters either. Do you have a better copy?

Yep, i don't have the money to buy all these pictures. Retired, living on minimum income, I save my money for books.
I just scan the E-Bay listing for anything that looks at all interesting. Some of these photos I can identify, using my own resources (Big book collection), but others are more difficult and sometimes impossible.
