Gerd Gaiser-German Post war author
I'm trying to find out the unit(s) that Gerd Gaiser served in the war. He became a fairly well known author after the war.
According to some information I found on the Web, he was a Bomber pilot but another site has the following information:" The author [Gerd Gaiser] was conscripted into the Luftwaffe as a ground officer and served as a fighter pilot in Poland, Norway, Northern Germany, Rumania, Hungary and Italy and was interned by the British at Rimini in April 1945." He seems fairly old to have served as a fighter pilot since he was born in 1908, which would make him 32 years old in 1940. Any information is welcome. |
