Wrk Nmr Mystery 4250

I have just received this 109 upper left hand cooler flap and was fortunate enough that the data plate is still on it and has not been stolen by a collector. I am perplexed by the wrk nmr given on the flap. The werk nmr appears to be 4250 there is damage in front of the nummer but the damage does not seem to be hiding any other number, I can't see any hints of partial numbers it does just appear to be 4250, but how can this be as that would make it an E which is not possible with this flap as it is for F's onwards.

Any help is much appreciated!

Matt

Re: Wrk Nmr Mystery 4250

Matt,

I suggest that "4250" relates to this cooler flap assembly, and not the particular airplane the assembly was installed on. Plates of this type marked various assemblies and parts on an aircraft. Normally, the applied Werk.-Nr. was used to record fabrication of the assembly/part (in this case, part number "109.581-003 G") unit. The airframe werk number (for the aircraft the assembly was later used on) was unrelated to the assembly number.

That said, plates like this did sometimes list the airframe werk number. However, in those cases the Sach-Nr entry line normally listed the airplane model (e.g., Me 109 G6).

Re: Wrk Nmr Mystery 4250

Hi steve,
I did wonder whether it was just the flaps werk nummer but I wasnt sure on a medium sized piece like this, I was hoping that it would be the AC nmr and not just the parts number.

I just had a look at the plate on Black six's elevator and see that it carries the elevators individual werk nmr and not black six's overall 10639 nmr. It is also made by the neustadt works and so it it looks like similar sized items did not carry the whole aircrafts number. A shame!
I have tracked down the actual werk nmr of another 109 cooler flap by the crash it came from but it doesnt look like I will be able to get an identity off this one.

Thanks for the help!
Matt
