Re: USS Boxer aircraft
Thanks Ed.
George----this must be Air Group 93 ? before the designator was changed to "ZZ" ( 27th July officially CTF/F39). On the 28th BOXER was in the Canal Zone (with ANTIETAM) all 4 types are in Ed's photos, F6F-5s, F4U-4s, SB2C-5s, TBM-3s. Nick |

Re: USS Boxer aircraft
Yes, that's right. On 26th July Air Group 93 made a mock attack on the Canal defences and on the 28th Boxer passed through en route San Francisco.

Re: USS Boxer aircraft
Thanks for that George.
On the subject of BOXER have you seen these tail markings? I don't think they are Air Group symbols for her as they are documented (nor any others). Maybe temporary when training. 21 is on the island so presumably post-August. Nick https://www.navsource.org/archives/02/022161.jpg Apologies George, just found your web-site...more eye-strain ! Re: USS Boxer aircraft
Hi George. These are some sketched I did for IPMS magazine in 1968, things have improved somewhat since then.
