Re: Bailed out on Jan 6 1945 over A-89 in Belgium

Thanks Alain

I notice you have slightly changed Cumers name to Curmers and 218 Sq to 318 Sq.

RAF 318 Sq is impossible since that unit was not in Europe.
Curmers is still unknown and not included in the crew of LM187

The info you give also contain too much that I don't understand, such as
Ship no XUUT (a call sign perhaps? RAF No 7 Sq used letter code XU)
13 Command (I don't know of any RAF Commands)
2 ATAF (I know what 2 TAF is)

Finally, none of the crew of LM187 ended up on the wrong side of the line.
All came down down on the Allied side.

Looking at USAAF losses on the 6th, nothing match.

Cheers
Stig

Re: Bailed out on Jan 6 1945 over A-89 in Belgium

Even with a lot of imagination, Sgt Curmers doesn't resemble any of the names of the crew of LM187 as listed in the ORB...
Either this name got totally jumbled up in the report of the Reel, or the ORB is wrong on this point. If the latter, then look for a Sgt Curmers in 218 Squadron ORB's on previous dates.

Remarkable: three men parachuted down, plus 5 more 'in enemy territory', makes 8, while a Lancaster crew had seven.
Coordinates J6446 point to a spot just south of Brussels.

Regards,
Leendert
