Unknown photo He 219 DV+DA W.Nr. 190105

Hello,

Attached is a - I guess - previously unknown photo of He 219 DV+DA, W.Nr. 190105. The photo comes from the photo album of a KG 26 air gunner. Unfortunately, I don't know where it was taken. But W.Nr. 190105 was attached to NJG 1 in 1944.

Cheers,

Roger

According to my data, DV+DA was the He 219 A-034, W.Nr. 190105. Many other preproduction examples, close to this aircraft, were assigned Versuch numbers so it would appear that this machine was probably delivered to the front soon after manufacture.

Re: Unknown photo He 219 DV+DA W.Nr. 190105

Hello Roger,

Harold is right: He219A-0 W.Nr. 190105 was the 34th series produced A-0. It was transferred to Venlo airfield on 24 February 1944, the Stammkennzeichen changed into Verbandskennzeichen G9+DK. On 12 May 1944 this bird moved to the 4./NJG 1 were it was involved in a crashlanding on 4 June 1944. It's final fate is not known yet.

If you could sent me a high resolution scan for my He219 project, I would be very grateful: info(at)hogenhuis.info

All the best, Marcel Hogenhuis

Re: Unknown photo He 219 DV+DA W.Nr. 190105

Hello,

First, thanks for posting this exciting new photo.

Second, are my old eyes fooling me or is there some form of linear equipment (other than the prop blade) extending out of the rear cockpit? Could it possibly be something related to ejection seat testing?

Respectfully,

Steve Sheflin

Marcel,

isn't the final fate not that event from 9.09.44: G9+DK shot down near Hopsten and reported as WNr. 290105?

Re: Unknown photo He 219 DV+DA W.Nr. 190105

Dear Gerhard,

You can scare someone (:-) but the Werkenr. 290105 first appeared in the lists of Verluste der Nachtjagdverbände from the late Hans Höhler (Gemeinschaft der Jagdflieger). This Werkenummer was copied into Roland Remp's wellknown He219 book.

First of all, the first He219 with a Werkenummer in the range 2901xx was actually 290110 and not sooner delivered then end of September 1944. Therefore 290105 cannot be correct.

Secondly, the Namentliche Verlustmeldung of the He219 which crashed near Hopsten gives another, more credible option: 210905, one of the first five, seriesproduced He219A-0's from Heinkel Rostock.

Case closed? One would say so but I have some contradictive references for 210905:

20 May 1944 : 1. Werkflug in Rostock (Flugbuch Lietsche)
13 June 1944 : transferred from Rostock to 2./NJGr.10 in Finow (EHW archive)
28 July 1944 : I./NJG 1, G9+EK, selbstbeschuss, belly landed Erbenheim (EHW archive)
31 July 1944 : 2./NJGr.10, 28 July 1944 selbstbeschuss, belly landed Erbenheim (EHW archive)
9 Sept.1944
: 2./NJG 1, G9+DK, Hopsten, 3 Tote (NVM= 210905)

Therefore, there might be a mix-up somewhere and there is still some margin of error.

Herzlichen Grüssen aus Venlo, Marcel

Re: Unknown photo He 219 DV+DA W.Nr. 190105

Dear Steve,

He219 A-0(34), DV+DA was not involved in any ejection seat tests. This was done with the preproduction He219V-6 (Werkenr. 190006, DH+PV) and later the series produced He219 A-042 (Werkenr. 190113, DV+DI)

Best regards, Marcel

Re: Unknown photo He 219 DV+DA W.Nr. 190105

Marcel

I am a bit confused over your WNr 210905 data
First of all can you recheck the dates 28 July 1944 and 31 July 1944.
Why do you again mention 28 July after 31 July on line 4?
Also why was this 219 moving almost like a jojo back and forth between NJGr 10 and NJG 1?

I also find Gerhard's comment very valid. Hadn't it been for the NVM details you quote, I would have said Gerhard was spot on. Since many of you find NVM far more reliable than the GQM lists I guess it should outweight anything else, but I have a nagging feeling this loss is not that easy....

Cheers
Stig
