Question Bf 109 G-14 introduction in JG 26

Caldwell says in his book on JG 26 that III. Gruppe had replaced its G-6s with G-14s by September 27, 1944. Did they have G-14s on hand before that date?

Re: Bf 109 G-14 introduction in JG 26

Luke,

The first 14 Bf 109 G-14 received by III./JG 26 were delivered in September 1944 indeed; at that time the unit still retains 10 Bf 109 G-6's.

III./JG 26 still had four Bf 109 G-6's in October 1944.

The first combat loss of a newly arrived Bf 109 G-14 for III./JG 26 occurred 12 October 1944: Bf 109 G-14 W.Nr. 461 538 "Blaue 8" with Ofhr. Hans-Theobald Thüring at the controls was shot down by P 51 D's from 357th FG over Bremervörde, OFhr. Thüring KIA. Source: Caldwell, JG 26 War Diary II, p. 367.

Cheers
Marc

Thanks! Do we happen to know the exact date those G-14s were delivered?

Re: Bf 109 G-14 introduction in JG 26

That is outdated info unfortunately.
WNr. 780851 was a G-6 and flown by Fhj.-Fw. Joachim Zeller
and Wnr. 165170 was a G-6 flown by Uffz. Hermann Ayerle.

Ok, so if I'm reading things right, III./JG 26 had G-14s as early as 25 September?
