Re: 162nd TRS F-6D Serial 44-14??? IX * P (or B, R)
Thank you Revi16. You nailed it regarding the "noseart".
So, the only clues are 44-14??? and code IX * P (or B, R) Alex, it seems it was first with the 162nd TRS and later 364FG if the sources can be trusted. But it was not the aircraft in the photo as that one was still marked 'IX'. |

Re: 162nd TRS F-6D Serial 44-14??? IX * P (or B, R)
Alex, Joe has his wires crossed somehow on this one! The landing accident on 5th January 1945 at A-95 was 42-103396 with pilot Henry A Veillette. 44-14073 was with 364FG from start to finish, having been gained on 23rd July 1944 and lost on 1st June 1945, when pilot Edward Chlevin bailed out following a mid-air collision. I really don't understand where Joe Baugher got his incorrect information from!

The OP's photo seems to show an aircraft in Long Term Storage, taped over exhaust manifolds, taped over canopy seams, Do Not Turn on the prop. All common items for aircraft storage.

So never converted with cameras then? Was possibly the mid-air collision with 44-15005 and Edward Hausenbauer? Cheers Stig |

On the same date, 5 Jan 1945, there was a second landing accident at the same place with another pilot, also from 111 TRS, Robert A Perry in F-6C 44-14703 Cheers Stig |

Thanks Stig, I had seen "703" but went with JB's detail instead, he is not wrong very often.

Re: 162nd TRS F-6D Serial 44-14??? IX * P (or B, R)
Obviously a typo somewhere down the line as I took Alex's 44-14307. There was indeed the second landing accident at the same place on the same day with Robert Perry in 44-14703. At the time, it seems to have been coded C3-B with 162TRS.

Hi Peter
Can you check the mid-air on 1 June 1945 please? Which was the other aircraft involved? I think it was 44-15005 but I would like to be sure. Cheers Stig |

Re: 162nd TRS F-6D Serial 44-14??? IX * P (or B, R)
Yes Stig, it was 44-15005 with Edward P Hausenbauer at the controls Cat 3 so obviously landed it. N2-Xbar 'Dream Boat' and assigned to Charles E Hammett. Salvaged on 21st September 1945 but I think that will be a generic date.
