Unknown abbreviation
In our museum there is a Browning plane MG, WWII, with historical background.
Someone brought a handwritten sheet which seems to be a manual to this MG. One line out of many is saying: 7500 yrds = killing or mast......(illegible) range The unknown bringer identified himself as P. A. J. (illegible) "2nd Q.M.S. Regt." ?? What does this abbr. mean.? Thx for clarification ! Best dnalor |

Re: Unknown abbreviation
QMS usually refers to Quarter Master Sergeant
I think there are still QMSs still in British and Commonwaelth armies There used to be the same rank in the US Army but no more Martin |

Re: Unknown abbreviation
QMS usually abbreviation of Quarter Master Sergeant indeed, but then as rank and function only?
If it's "2nd Q.M.S. Regiment", then referral to what appears an army unit. Most if not all British regiments and/or battalions had a Q.M.S. in their ranks. However, the US Army Quartermaster School at Camp Lee, VA had its soldiers in several QM(S) Regiments (nowadays three QM Battalions at Fort Lee, VA) for training purposes. Regards, Leendert |

Re: Unknown abbreviation
Many thanks, Leendert for
extended answer. The question for me in Tyrol is remaining, who brought this handwritten document to Tyrol, Austria? Was it Renee A Gaudette himself, Alex found this name on the document. ATB dnalor |
