Oblt Horst Carganico 1./JG77 1941

Hi guys

Can anyone add to/confirm etc the following list of claims/credits for Oblt Horst Carganico following his arrival on the Eastern Front during 1941, please?

3/7/41 I-153
8/7/41 two fighters
9/7/41 SB-2
10/7/41 one
11/7/41 one shared (No.13)

The above is very sketchy. Any help appreciated.

Cheers
Brian

Re: Oblt Horst Carganico 1./JG77 1941

Hi Brian

Trouble with Carganico is that only the last five of his claims appear on the micro films. We are led to believe his total confirmed claims is exactly sixty, but I wouldn't be surprised if this isn't correct. His claims with 6./JG 5 can be found on the claims board of that staffel, but even here there is no way of knowing if they were all confirmed.

With 1941 I believe he was with Stab.II./JG 77 not 1./JG 77.

His Bf109's rudder suggests that his claims numbered 1-5, 28 and 31-32 were scored against the RAF. Might be rewarding if a British loses expert can investigate just when the RAF lost aircraft in his operating area.

What I had is as follows.

21st June 1940 Hampden west of Hardanger-fjord 1624 hrs Nr.1
9th July 1940 Blenheim NW Stavanger 0958 hrs Nr.2
9th July 1940 Blenheim NW Stavanger 1008 hrs Nr.3
14th October 1940 Hudson 1514 hrs Nr.4
30th November 1940 Blenheim 14km SE Morlaix 0825hrs Nr.5
11th July 1941 unknown
13th July 1941 unknown
2nd August 1941 unknown
17th August 1941 I-16 Motowski Bight area
2nd September 1941 I-16 Nr.25

with 6./JG 5

26th April 1942 Pe-2 70km SE Luostari 1616 hrs
26th April 1942 Pe-2 70km south of Petsamo
28th April 1942 Hurricane west bank of Kola Bay
28th April 1942 Hurricane west bank of Kola Bay
29th April 1942 I-153 5km west of Liza Bay
9th May 1942 P-40 40km SW Motowski 1704 hrs
10th May 1942 Hurricane 10km north of Saida-Guba
10th May 1942 Hurricane 3km south of Ura Guba
10th May 1942 Hurricane Aya Bay
12th May 1942 Hurricane
12th May 1942 Hurricane
14th May 1942 Pe-2
15th May 1942 Hurricane
16th May 1942 unknown
16th May 1942 unknown
19th May 1942 Hurricane
19th May 1942 Hurricane
1st June 1942 P-40
1st June 1942 I-16
2nd June 1942 Hurricane
29th June 1942 Hurricane Murmansk area
29th June 1942 Hurricane Murmansk area
29th June 1942 Hurricane
29th June 1942 Hurricane
30th June 1942 Hurricane

With Stab.II./JG 5

21st April 1943 unknown Kandalakscha area

With Stab.II./JG 5(found on micro films)

8th December 1943 R-5 0946 hrs Nr.56
8th December 1943 LaGG- east of Nevel 1145 hrs Nr.57
15th December 1943 P-40 0949 hrs Nr.58
15th February 1944 Il-2 1206 hrs Nr.59

With Stab.i./JG 5

10th May 1944 Mosquito 35km SW Wiener Neustadt 1130 hrs Nr.60

Ask around if a claims board photo for Stab.II./JG 77 exists?

Kind Regards

Johannes

P.S trouble is that what becomes published is taken as "fact".....then is duplicated in later publications.......but, it's not necessarily true!

Many thanks, Johannes

Hopefully more information will come to light, particularly regarding his late 1941 claims.

Cheers

Hi guys

I was hoping that Mark Sheppard might respond - I believe he has some information on Carganico.

Here's hoping

Brian
