Marauders 12 Sqn SAAF
In the article in Aeroplane Aug 2020 Vic Flintham says that Marauders are Mk.IIs FB484/V, FB425/Z and FB439/C, but are Mk.IIIs and the photo is taken early 1945 (see upper wing roundel blue-white-orange), and at that time these were HD505/V, HD661/Z and HD608/C. FB484/V Early-Mid 44 HD543/V Aug-Dec 44 HD430/V Late 44 HD505/V 45 FB425/Z early 44 FB463/Z (ex 'M' of 24 Sqn) mid-44 FB464/Z late 44 HD661/Z late 44-April 45 FB439/C 44 HD608/C 44-45 For example - raid on Dobova on March 20 1945 HD505/V Capt. Re: Marauders 12 Sqn SAAF
Hi Zoran
Vic Flintham is a friend of mine, so I asked him about the photo. As listed, it belongs to his collection and came captioned on the flip side and that was also what he used for his article. Photo is not dated The photo is not stated to have been shot during any specific mission (since it is as said undated), so he used it simply to illustrate a typical Marauder mission. Since it is impossible to see any difference between a Mk II and Mk III from the angle taken and no serials were visible, he went with the caption on the flip side. Cheers Stig |

Re: Marauders 12 Sqn SAAF
Hello Stig, There is a very simple way to recognize Mk.II, as the one above (also of 12 Sqn SAAF) - roundel is close to the tail, and on Mk.IIIs is between upper turrel and tail. Zoran |
