3./Bordfliegergruppe 196, 1943-1944

Hi,

I'm doing research on the use of Focke-Achgelis Fa 330. I found that it (with Flettner Fl 282) was used in a small unit, 3./
BFGr. 196 for training in Kiel-Holtenau and Pillau-Marshafen, in 1943-44.

This unit was subordinated to Marinegruppe Ost? Or some Luftflotte?

Best regards,

Franklin

The unit effectively provided tactical training for the Kriegsmarine's Bachstelzenfliger as an adjunct to the training given by the Segelflugausbildungsstelle der Luftwaffe at Gelnhausen. This is covered in my book 'Helicopters Of The Third Reich'.

Franklin - To be honest, I don't recall having seen much detail on the reporting line. The dissolution of the unit was handled under the auspices of Lufflotte Reich. I should probably also add that a significant amount of the unit's direction came via the General der Luftwaffe beim Oberbefehlshaber der Marine.

Remi - The MS Elsaß (Alsace) was a captured French minesweeper.

Chain of command. see attached file. As for MS Elsaß, it was a captured french ferry that was converted to a minelayer, by Kriegsmarine.

Re: 3./Bordfliegergruppe 196, 1943-1944

That means that the crews of 3.196 were used to man the submarines nd small vessels fitted with FA 330, quite logical indeed

And a photo of Elsaß with Bachstelze-pad.
