37mm guns in B-25 ?
... starting in 1943 there were many field mods of B-25s with solid-noses and 50cal gun-batteries .
I wonder why the 37mm T9 gun was not used, it should have been a good weapon for those low-level anti-shipping strikes. It was available in the theater as it was mounted in the Bell Airacobra where it had a good performance record (in a B-25 a jam could be dealt with in-flight I suppose) and its use was contemplated for the later Douglas Invader. Two 37mm guns and an assortment of 12.7 MG - doesn't this make sense? thx, P. |
