Re: UNIT HISTORIES
At least KG 30 and 54 had unit histories. At least that of KG 54 is a good one.

Re: UNIT HISTORIES
Beppino,
Unfortunately no unit histories to date for KG30 and KG76. There is however an excellant unit history for Kampfgeschwader 54 (see below). Radtke, S., 1990. Kampfgeschwader 54 - Von der Ju 52 zur Me 262 - Eine Chronik nach Kreigstagebüchern, Berichten und Documenten. Schild Verlag, München, 383p. Regards Jeremy |

Re: UNIT HISTORIES
I am obliged to point out that our book "Bomber Units of the Luftwaffe - A Reference Source" consists of unit histories. These typically run about 8 pages per Geschwader and describe all phases of their careers as well as who was in command of what and when. These are not as complete as the dedicated unit histories but they are (1) easy to use and (2) in English! For a thorough review of Volume 1 see:
http://stonebooks.com/archives/080330.shtml Volume 1 covers Geschwader KG 1 through KG 60 Volume 2 covers Geschwader KG 66 to KG 753, then does the KGr. units, the ErgKG units, the LG units and various odd-ball units. We are gratified (and amazed) to observe that our volumes rank among the best sellers of military aviation titles (according to Barnes and Noble as well as Amazon). I hope this answers your question. Re: UNIT HISTORIES
For what it is worth, I've spent the better part of a year researching the history of II/KG 40, II/KG 100 and III/KG 100. Based on that research, I can conclude that deZeng and Stankey did a spectacular job. Their presentation of information on KG 40 and KG 100 is spot on. My recommendation is that you start with their material and work from there.

Re: UNIT HISTORIES
While Doug & Larry's books are definitely very good with the top down detail - commanders, locations, etc., they do not give the detail I think the thread originator is looking for. There are published histories that supply aircraft and crew details for LG 1 (Peter Taghon), KG 54 (Radtke), KG 27 (Walt Waiss), KG 2, KG 100 (both Ulf Balke) and KG 6 (Jan Horn). The KG 30 book, 'Achtung, Torpedos los' lists most of the crew losses, but no aircraft stuff. Some of these do great day to day accounting, some don't. Many of the older unit histories from Motorbuch Verlag, such as KG 4, KG 53 & KG 51 give some, but very incomplete crew details and minimal aircraft detail.

Re: UNIT HISTORIES
Beppino,
The title of the LG1 book(s) is as follows Die Geschichte des Lehrgeschwaders 1 (History of LG 1) - Part 1 and 2. The author is Peter Taghon and to your specific question regarding the air raid against Bari harbour, yes it is covered in I believe volume 2. Christian Schmidt still has copies of these books for sale. Cheers Jeremy |
